About
In 2021, Offset was invited to support a new film and gig-theatre piece, The Paradise Bar. Presented by Talita Moffatt, The Paradise Bar explores themes of race and identity. Taking the form of a 1950s style jazz bar, it’s set in the present but connected to the past.
The Paradise Bar is a Black-led collaboration including international jazz musician & composer, Soweto Kinch; spoken word artists Justine Agbowu, Isi The Scribe and Broken Pen; dancers Simeon Joseph and Raffie Julien; film artist Kevan Smith; and artists Becky Barry and Donna Mullings. The production has a mixed d/Deaf and hearing cast from across the UK that represent community stories not always told.
The Members Lounge
Offset was commissioned to deliver The Paradise Bar’s Members’ Lounge - a dedicated virtual space for people aged 16 - 25 years to connect with peers and meet the performers of The Paradise Bar. It’s an informal space to chat and explore the themes of the production, and find out about creative careers including those in theatre, production, sound design, music and poetry.
